A Comprehensive Learning Journey
Our formula for success: Assessment + Study Plan + Targeted Tutor Support
Arka at Home combines a pen and paper study programme based on high quality curricular
-
What curriculum do you use?At Arka we have used our decades of experience working in supplementary education to identify the best curricula from around the world. For example our core Maths programme is based on the Singapore Maths approach, widely regarded as being the gold standard in improving children's performance in Maths. Where we can't find the right resources we have developed our own materials. For our core English programme we have devised the Arka Treasury, which is a series of bespoke lessons designed to encourage a love of learning English while improving each child's English skills. We believe the combination of using the best available existing curricula with our own custom designed materials ensures our programmes provide the optimal approach for each child.
-
What age range is Arka for?We provide tutoring solely for children aged 6 to 11. We believe this focus ensures we deliver to a consistently high standard for our students.
-
Can I pause my subscription?Yes! If you're away and therefore unable to attend we can pause your subscription for up to 1 month.
-
What are your opening hours? We're open 5 days a week from Tuesday to Saturday. We open from 10.30am to 7.30pm Tuesday - Thursday, 9am - 6pm on Friday and 9.30am - 5pm on Saturday.
-
How much are in-centre sessions? We have two teaching plans. Plan 1 is £125 per month and allows students to come for 1 hour per week. Plan 2 is £165 per month and allows students to come for 2 hours per week.
-
Will my child get individual tutor attention?Absolutely! Each child follows their own bespoke learning plan and works at a level and pace that is appropriate for them. Dedicated and trained tutors support students through their learning plan on an individual basis. The student to tutor ratio is a maximum of 5:1.
-
Are you Ofsted registered? Do you offer Tax Free Childcare?Yes! Our centres are registered with Ofsted on the Voluntary Childcare Register. This means we can offer Tax Free Childcare to eligible families. We are also able to accept Student Childcare Grants.
-
What happens in the free assessment at the Arka centre? Our free assessment sessions give us a chance to see if Arka will be a suitable environment for your child to learn in and, more importantly, give you and your child the opportunity to meet our team, see our centre and decide if it's the right place for you. During the assessment we will set your child some Maths and English materials to work through. We aim to make our assessment sessions relaxed and enjoyable to give children an authentic experience of an actual tutoring session at Arka. At the end of the assessment we will give you a high level overview of your child's level and our recommended starting point for their learning programme at Arka. Once signed up, children are assessed during each centre and also undertake more comprehensive assessments every few months to track their progress.
-
How long are classes?Classes are one hour long, allowing students either to spend an entire hour on one subject or split the class into two 30 minute sessions, allowing them to cover Maths and English.
-
How does the free assessment work for online tuition? We will set your child an online assessment to be completed on a computer or tablet at home. The length of the assessment varies by age, ranging from c. 30 minutes for younger children to 1 hour for older children. The assessment is followed by a free consultation, during which we will discuss how your child performed and our recommended starting point for their individual learning programme. We will also share a report outlining how your child performed in different areas.
-
What age is Arka for?Arka is for children aged 6 to 11 years old.
-
How much does Arka's programme cost?Arka's home-based programme for Maths and English costs £70 per month per subject. Within this you will get an individual pen and paper based study programme (with all materials sent to your home) as well as 1-to-1 online tutoring support for 30 minutes per subject each week. Our 11+ programme costs £150 per month and includes one hour per week of 1-to-1 online tutoring.
-
How do the online tutoring sessions work? For each subject your child will get 30 minutes of 1-to-1 online tutoring each week. This takes place over Zoom or Teams with our interactive whiteboard to allow our tutors to talk each student through key concepts. The tutoring session is informed by the child's performance on their study programme. Key areas to work on will be identified and addressed, ensuring our tutors use every minute of each session to target the topics that your child needs support with.
-
How does the study programme work?We believe children learn best when using pen and paper. With this philosophy in mind we will post hard copies of our materials to all students who join our programme. Following the initial assessment, the initial batch of resources will be posted to your home address for your child to complete. Alongside our paper based programmes, we have devised a very simple and easy online marking system. Using this, parents can quickly mark their child's work, which feeds into our tracking and monitoring of each student. This data is then used to inform the weekly online tutoring session, as well as tailoring the next batch of materials in the student's study programme.
Your Journey With Arka At Home
1. Free Assessment
Get started with a free online assessment followed by a video consultation. During the follow up consultation we will discuss how your child got on, our recommended learning plan and provide a detailed report.
2. Study Programme
Your Arka Learning study pack and materials will arrive in the post with an individual, paper based study programme. Your child will work through the programme at home (we recommend 20 to 30 minutes per day). Progress is tracked throughout and your child's performance will inform each stage of the programme as well as what is covered in their weekly tutoring session.
3. Weekly 1-to-1 Tutoring
Each week your child will book in for a 30 minute online tutoring session for each subject. This session will focus on target areas for support based on your child's performance on their bespoke study programme.
4. Ongoing Assessment
Students are continuously assessed throughout their programme to ensure they are on track. As they complete each section of our programme we tailor the next set of materials based on their performance.
